All about factory data reset and how to do it in seconds


Resetting your android phone seems to be a confusing task, but in reality it is a matter of 5-6 taps. You needn't go to a mobile repair shop or need to be a geek in order to do so. Follow these simple steps and you'll have absolutely no problem in resetting your phone. Do read the cautions carefully as you might end up losing your data otherwise.

First let us know what is factory reset?

Factory reset or formatting or hard reset, all are equivalent to removing all the user data from your phone, resetting it in the same condition as it was when you first booted your android phone.

Note - A factory reset erases all your data from your device. This will restore your smartphone to its original manufacturer settings. This means that all apps will be erased, along with files, settings and manufacturer app updates.

How is it different from soft reset?


Factory data reset (also called hard reset), is completely different from soft reset, which is nothing but rebooting/ restarting your android phone.

Why factory reset?

Although there might be endless reasons for formatting your phone but the most common ones include, less or no storage left, lagging UI, slower than usual performance, frequent freezes, handing your phone to someone else, etc. It can make your phone feel new again.

How to factory reset your Android smartphone?

You can go through and individually delete apps and old photos, but the fastest and best method is to just to wipe all the data and factory reset your phone.

But wait, first have a look at this list of some precautions that you must take in order to successfully format you phone.

  1. Make sure to have at least 30 percent battery.
  2. Make sure you remember your pin/ pattern/ password (if any) as you would be required to enter it in order to initiate reset.
  3. Make sure you have backed up your data (in case there’s something you need like photos, videos, documents).
  4. You won’t be able to undo this operation, so you need to be cent percent sure about your decision.


Finally, let’s talk about how to actually do all this stuff.


The first step is to open your device's Settings app.

  1. Now, you need to look for Advanced settings/ System Advanced Reset options/ Backup and Reset.
  2. If you don't see "Advanced," tap Reset options.
  3. Tap Erase all data/ Factory data reset.
  4. Finally tap Reset phone. If needed, enter your PIN, pattern, or password.
  5. To erase all data from your device's internal storage, tap Erase everything.
  6. When your device has finished erasing, pick the option to restart.


The Harder alternative to reset your phone

  1. Firstly, switch off your phone.
  2. Hold the Volume down button, the Power button simultaneously until the phone turns on.
  3. You'll see the word Start, then you should press Volume down and got to Recovery mode.
  4. Now press the Power button to start recovery mode. You should see an Android robot now.
  5. Now, press and hold the Power button, and while doing so, press the Volume up button once, then let go of the Power button.
  6. Press Volume down and go to wipe data/factory reset, then press the Power button to select it. 
  7. Press the Power button and select Reboot system now.
